Here in the Commonwealth of Virginia dentists must take 15 hours of continuing education every year in order to keep their dental license. When I renew Dr. Urban’s license I must certify that he has met this minimum requirement. I never hesitate to check the yes box because I know he takes far more than the minimum.
You might have noticed on our home page Dr. Urban has FAGD after his DDS. Most people know what a DDS is, but not many know what a FAGD is. It stands for Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. In order to become a Fellow a dentist must complete 500 hours of continuing education. Dr. Urban completed his is 7.5 years. That’s an average of over 66 hours a year!
This past weekend Dr. Urban went to Chicago to the dental convention. A lot of people might think that this is just an excuse for dentists to travel and write it off as a business expense. This is certainly not the case for Dr. Urban; after all Chicago in February isn’t exactly an alluring vacation destination. When he was there Dr. Urban saw the latest and greatest that modern dentistry has to offer. He also took a class about efficiency in the dental office, and he got to talk with many of the dental gurus. This kind of dedication to continuing education, and keeping up with the latest technology is one of the many things that set Dr. Urban apart from the average dentist.
If you would like to have a dentist that does way more than the minimum required give us a call. We would love to hear from you.
