World on a String

Floss is a great tool for keeping teeth clean, but it’s also a pretty strong multiuse string. A prisoner in Charlestown, West Virginia used dental floss to escape!

According to the LATimes.com, “while cameras, guards and computer-controlled doors were keeping other inmates in, Shepard reportedly braided the floss into a rope as thick as a telephone cord and used it to scale an 18-foot wall” http://articles.latimes.com/1994-07-02/news/mn-10984_1_dental-floss

I am not surprised as I am currently using floss as a ceiling fan cord. It works great and I am only using a double strand.  Floss braided into a rope as thick as a phone cord would be quite strong. I have used floss as string for many little things throughout the years. Recently I had a little wrench tied to a cabinet handle with floss so that I wouldn’t lose it.
